'Dog Ego Co. #27'
Wednesday 7th May:
Glissando
SixToes
The Patrick Drum Project
At The Forum, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Doors: 8:00pm.
Glissando: Formed in 2002, Glissando create breathtaking soundscapes with piano and guitar. Add to that the beautiful haunting vocals of Elly May Irving and something
quite wonderous is formed before your very ears. Based in Leeds, UK, the core of the band is Elly May Irving and Richard Knox but live shows often feature other players.
In the past this has included members of Her Name is Calla and Immune. The ambient and sometimes experimental sounds bring to mind the likes of Low, Gregor Samsa, Bat
For Lashes, Stars of the Lid and Cocteau Twins. Glissando have released several limited edition CD-Rs on the Gizeh and Loom record labels, most recently a collection of
old works entitled ’Loves Are Like Empires’. This release marked an end to the duo’s more experimental music and has forged a path to the more melodic direction Glissando
are now heading in.

SixToes: ‘Scruffy, sinister folk rock. Something like Anthony and the Johnsons singing the scariest words of Aleister Crowley. In hell’. - NME. After touring with the
Mystery Jets, King Creosote and Jamie T in 2007, SixToes retreated to the fenland backwater town of Ely (Cambridgeshire, England), to build a little home studio sandwiched
between the asylum and historic cathedral. As the cold closed in and bills rose they hightailed it back to their squat in London where they’re putting the finishing
touches to their album. The latest batch of tracks are scattered with references to witch myths, mystery and ridiculous nightmarish prophesy. The band consists of two main
vocalists, who trade in wide, off kilter harmonies. They’re joined by double bass, strings, percussion and a range of instruments from er-hus to saws to cymbolims. Their
remix of Maps’ ‘Elouise’ was recently released by Mute Records and the band intends to follow this up with a single then an album this summer.
